Figure 1. You can find considerable evidence in the debris of a fire scene. A search through debris located this doorknob assembly. The relative condition of the knobs helped establish which side of the door the fire began.

Figure 2. Sometimes, just looking through debris that’s being excavated isn’t enough to identify crucial parts. On those occasions, use wire screening (hardware cloth) to locate the pieces.
