Special Report: Fluorescent Lighting Part I
You might not have realized it, but fluorescent lighting is the major light source of this country, according to this issue’s Special Report author, David Powell. And, it works much differently than incandescent lighting.

Conductors 101
Electrical conductors, also known as wires, are required by the National Electrical Code to have certain markings on the insulation or inside the cable. Fire Findings’ engineer, Nate Dwyer, describes the information found on conductors and how knowing the properties and size of a wire might help you identify the device or maker of a cable.A key component, the ballast, limits the amount of current that flows through the lamps and affects the light output. Filaments at each end of a fluorescent lamp release electrons through mercury vapor. Find out how they work with other parts to produce fluorescent lighting.
