WebQ/A

What unusual questions have opposing attorneys been asking you that seem to originate with NFPA 921?
As we explain in Fire Findings (Vol. 7, No. 3, page 4), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, has provided some ammunition to opposing attorneys to ask questions that are making some fire investigators squirm. The purpose of the questioning is attack the qualifications of experts and thus their ability to testify at all.

If you’ve encountered such questioning, we’d like to hear from you. Send us an e-mail, or simply mail or fax your answers to us. We’ll compile a list of questions (and perhaps the answers, too), and get it back to you.

What questions — related to NFPA 921 — are opposing attorneys asking you that seem to attack your qualifications as an expert?

Example: What’s the formula for, and the importance of, thermal inertia?
