Scene Exam, Report Writing and Courtroom Testimony

This scenario-based seminar will include three full days of hands-on training with a live scene exam, report writing exercise, and realistic courtroom testimony. 

Lead instruction provided by Mr. Ron Taylor, IAAI-CFI and Mr. Nathan Dwyer, PE, IAAI-CFI, of Fire Findings, and Sgt. Dan Drew, IAAI-CFI, of Michigan State Police. 

Special guest attorneys Ms. Amanda Fopma, of Secrest Wardle, and Mr. Stuart Sklar, of Fabian, Sklar, King and Liss, will provide a realistic testifying experience in the courtroom. 

Special thanks to Chief Derek Hogerheide and the Kalkaska Township FD, Michigan State Police, Kalkaska County Courts, Benzie Co ADA Amanda Craig, and Attorneys Ms. Fopma and Mr. Sklar.

Certificate for 20 hours of tested training will be provided.

Day 1 involves classroom instruction in the morning and fire scene excavation in the afternoon. Dress appropriately and bring your fire scene gear. Evidence packaging supplies will be provided. Lunch also provided on Day 1.
 
Day 2 begins with more classroom instruction regarding processing the fire scene. The classroom will be divided into groups for the afternoon, when students will work on authoring a report based upon the fire scene investigation conducted Day 1. Lunch will be on your own Day 2.
 
Day 3, the final day, will be held in the 67th District Court of Kalkaska where students will be cross-examined by our attorneys and provided feedback on their investigation, report, and testimony. Professional attire required (PD/FD dress uniforms, slacks and a shirt/tie, etc). Lunch provided on Day 3.
